The other day I chanced upon an episode of 'Suryaputra Karn' on some Hindi General Entertainment Channel. I could recognize two people immediately - Lord Krishna because of the peacock feather in his crown and Karn because of the symbol of the Sun on his forehead. Here's how I sorted out the rest of the cast.
It is always easy to figure out who is playing Bheem - in the bygone era, this would be someone who is the tallest or one with muscles or a lot of bulk. But these days even actors playing Dhritarashtra sport six packs. :-) In this episode I located someone who was boiling with anger, was tallest and had a tad more muscles than the rest. Bingo! One down, four to go. The two people who looked like they would cry at the drop of the hat (despite their muscles!) and stood next to each other had to be Nakul and Sahadeva - the Maadreyas or sons of Maadri. The calm one had to be Yudhisthira, so the remaining Pandav would be Arjun. Mercifully, there were only 2 prominent people from the Kaurava camp in that scene. The older gentleman had to be Shakuni - I have no idea why all actors playing Shakuni have to resort to over-acting. The Gandhar prince is supposed to be calculating and shrewd, not ludicrous. Anyways, so the other dude with black markings on his forehead must be Duryodhana. He seemed to have watched that film in which John Abraham plays the psychotic boyfriend too many times. His expressions were spot-on for that role.
Wonder what the rest of the cast looks like :-)

X-Files Event Series, E03 & E04
Aha, finally a case! I found myself sighing in relief even though the case appeared to be about something that we have seen countless times before - werewolves. But wait, this one came with a twist - a human biting a beast causing it to turn into a human being every now and then. We haven't seen this one before, have we now? The episode handled it with a good dose of humor as well. I especially loved the scene in which Mulder puts forth his arguments fully anticipating (and articulating) Scully's objections to every one of them.
The next episode reminded me of some of the cases in the original series - the ones that would have a good plot but would leave you confused and unclear at the end. This one started on a promising note as well - a murder is committed by a man who later disappears at the back of a garbage truck. But somewhere down the lane the plot got lost in philosophy. It didn't help that Scully's personal matters too were woven into the story. It was wrong to make references to Scully's relatives when it has been so long since the original series ended. Did the writer and director really think we would remember who Melissa and Bill and Charlie are? I remembered after 10 minutes that Melissa is Dana's sister who gets killed instead of her in a case of mistaken identity. When the caller ID on Dana's mobile flashes the name William, I seriously thought it was her son calling and wondered how Dana had his number given that she had given him up for adoption years ago. And I am still not sure if William and Bill are the same people or not. :-(
