Chili's, Powai

Ever looked at a menu and felt like ordering everything on it? After a very long time, I felt like that when I opened the Menu at Chili's. 'Oh Boy! everything looks delicious. Only if I were a dinosaur, I could eat it all'. But I was in mood for a good salad (God knows they it is so rare!) so the first dish that we ordered was Spicy Chicken Salad. .

Spicy Chicken Salad
The salad wasn't spicy by any Indian standards for spiciness :-) That way it didn't live upto its name. But instead if it were called 'Delicious Soul-Satisfying Salad' it wouldn't have been too far off the mark. Loads of vegetables, chunky chicken strips, crumbled feta cheese, crispy tortilla strips and ranch dressing to die for would have absolutely justified the name. :-)

Parmesan Crusted Chicken
I cannot recollect the name of the second dish but it consisted of  two parmesan crusted chicken breasts with dollops of Chipotle Butter, a pile of steamed veggies and mashed potatoes with gravy. I know there are going to be days when I am going to be dreaming about this dish during lunch time. I am sure that if it had been 'apocalypse now' at the time I was devouring it I wouldn't have noticed.

I will say only this - I envy the souls who work in nearby buildings. If I were one of them, I would have landed at this eating joint every single day! :-)

I Will Walk Alone and The Shadow Of Your Smile - Mary Higgins Clark

Within a span of two weeks I have finished reading two novels by one of my favorite authors. 'I Will Walk Alone' had an interesting plot. Zan Moreland, an interior decorator by profession doesn't know where her son Matthew is since the past 2 years when someone took him out of the stroller as his baby-sitter took a nap in the park. Zan is trying to put the past firmly behind her and concentrate on the business she has set up when photos surface that show that it was Zan who took Matthew that day. Knowing that someone has been making purchases using her name and signature, Zan suspects that someone is impersonating her. Unfortunately for her, no one else seems to believe in that theory, including the detectives who are trying to crack the case. And as everyone looks at her as a possible abductor of her only child, Zan desparately fights a losing battle to control her life when it is threatening to go rapidly downhill. As I said, an interesting case of stolen identity. Finding Mrs. Alvirah Meehan, one of my favorite characters, in it was an added bonus. :-)

While Zan was an interior decorator, Doctor Monica, the protagonist of 'The Shadow Of Your Smile' is a pediatrician who doesn't believe in miracles. So when she is asked to testify that a boy's brain cancer was miraculously cured so that a nun, whom the boy's mother prayed to, can be recommended for beatification, she is rather reluctant. Then there is Olivia who doesn't have too much time left on earth but has a momentous decision to make before she breathes her last - whether to tell Dr. Monica that her father, who never knew his birth parents, was the son of her sister Catherine who gave him up for adoption so she could answer to her calling in life. And somewhere in the background is a wealthy family whose heirs are squandering away the wealth that rightfully belongs to Dr. Monica, if only she knew it.

As much as I enjoy reading Clark's novels, I have never been able to figure out why all her protagonists are breathtakingly beautiful. Can't a plain Jane be at the center of the plot? :-) That said, most of her characters are lovable, good people who genuinely want to help others. Like Mrs. Meehan or Tony Garcia or Dr. Monica's secretary Nan. In today's world where everyone is busy looking out for his or her own interests, such people are becoming rare. Perhaps that's one reason I like to read about them, even if it is in the pages of a fiction. :-) I am also constantly amazed by how masterfully Clark manages to bring together the threads to unraveling the crime that are in the hands of these same people.

The library seems to have 3 more Clark novels. I intend to read them all.
