The familiar feeling is back - and in full force. I don't want to watch the last 2 episodes of Season 10 and yet I want to watch them.

I know Charlie is dead and yet I cannot believe it. I am so mad at Sam that I could forgive Dean if he decides to kill him now. Sam is every inch the Moose that Crowley calls him, and more. And I cannot believe Castiel let Charlie die on his watch. For God's sake, couldn't he have kept Charlie and Rowena in separate rooms? Or at least did some magic that prevented Charlie from hearing whatever the witch was saying? When he knew Charlie was gone, he could have surely known where she is and appeared there in a second instead of letting Sam and Dean go there by road. Or are those fancy wings of his for mere display? These 3 idiots couldn't, between them, manage to save Charlie and they talk of saving the world!

I think everyone would have been better off if Sam had told Dean, Castiel and Crowley about seeking Rowena's help right from the beginning and let Crowley deal with her after she cracked the code. She is an evil witch. No one would have blamed Sam if he had double-crossed her. But of course, him being the Moose, he never thought of this. And poor Charlie paid the price. :-(

I shudder to imagine what's in store in the remaining episodes. I had read Misha Collins' interview a few days back and that wasn't very encouraging. I don't know what is worse - seeing Dean tip over to the dark side or seeing either Sam or Castiel dead. Of course, I would be sad if Crowley is bumped off because Rowena manages to crack the code and Sam has to keep his side of the bargain. But I won't be totally heartbroken. Sorry Crowley :-)

रोमराज्य - मीना प्रभु

'रोमराज्य' वाचायचं ठरवलं खरं पण दोन भागातलं जाडजूड पुस्तक पाहून इटलीबद्दल एव्हढं वाचायचा कंटाळा तर येणार नाही ना असं वाटलं. पण पहिला भाग वाचायला घेतला आणि ती भीती अनाठायी होती असं लक्षात आलं.

लेखिकेची इजिप्तायन, वाट तिबेटची आणि चीनी माती वाचून २-३ वर्षं नक्की झाली असतील. तेव्हा जाणवलेली एक गोष्ट पुन्हा प्रकर्षाने जाणवली. जिथे जातोय तिथली खास अशी स्थळं शोधण्याची त्यांची तळमळ आणि उत्साह. चार लोकं बघतात तेच केवळ न बघता वेगळं अनवट असं काही पहायचं, अनुभवायचं हा त्यांचा मंत्र आहे. तुम्ही आम्ही वेगळ्या देशात गेलो तरी तिथल्या स्थानिक जीवनाशी आपला फार परिचय होत नाही. पण लेखिका तो होईल असं बघते. नुसतं लोक जगतात कसे हेच नाही तर त्यांचे विचारसुद्धा आपल्यापर्यंत त्या पोचवतात. त्यांना भेटलेली ही माणसं न बघतानाही आपल्यालाच भेटली आहेत असं वाटत रहातं.

खरं तर परक्या देशात ही बाई इतक्या बिनधास्तपणे फिरते ह्याचं मलाही कधीकधी आश्चर्य वाटतं - तेही मुंबईसारख्या शहरात जन्मले आणि वाढले असून. पण हाच प्रश्न काही वाचक बायकांनी लेखिकेला विचारला तेव्हा आपल्याला त्यांच्या प्रश्नाचा रोख कळला नाही असं त्या नमूद करतात. इटलीत एके ठिकाणी फिरताना काही टवाळ मुलं अरबट चरबट बोलताना पाहून आपण तिथून लागोलाग निघालो असं त्यांनी लिहिलंय तेव्हा कदाचित त्या प्रश्नाचा अर्थ त्यांना कळला असावा. :-) त्यांच्याबद्दल माझी एकच तक्रार आहे - त्या जिथे जातात त्या देशातल्या खाद्यसंस्कृतीबद्दल त्या फारसं लिहीत नाहीत. तीच गोष्ट संगीताबद्दल.

ह्या पुस्तकात मात्र त्यांनी इटलीतल्या चित्र आणि शिल्प ह्या दोन्ही कलांबद्दल भरभरून लिहिलंय. रोम, नेपल्स, व्हेनिस, व्हेटिकन ह्या गाजलेल्या ठिकाणांबरोबरच इतर अनेक न ऐकलेल्या ठिकाणांची सफर आपल्याला घरबसल्या करायला मिळते, त्यांच्याबाबतीत भरपूर माहिती मिळते. एव्हढी माहिती त्या कशी लक्षात ठेवतात हे एक कोडं आहे. कदाचित डिक्टोफोन वापरत असतील. अर्थात हे पुस्तक विकत घेतलं तर त्याबरोबर फोटोज असलेली सीडी मिळते. लायब्ररीतून आणलेल्या पुस्तकात ती सोय नाही. पण त्या असं काही वर्णन करतात की नेटवर सर्च करून ते चित्र वा शिल्प आपल्याला पहावंच लागते. बेर्निनीचं गोड हत्तीचं शिल्प मी असंच पाहिलं. व्हीव्हाल्डीचं फॉर सिझन एकदा सवड काढून ऐकणार आहे.

खरं सांगायचं ना तर एखादा देश कसा बघावा, देशच काय, आपण जिथे जातो ते ठिकाण कसं पहावं ह्याचा धडा मला त्यांच्याकडून मिळाला. युरोपची सफर करायचं मी ठरवलं होतंच. पण नुसता इटली एकदा पहायचा असंही मनोमन ठरवून टाकलंय आणि त्यासाठी माझं गाईडबुक असणार आहे 'रोमराज्य' :-)
