Sewa o suru Nihon

I have never been to Japan but I had taken (very!) basic classes in the language a long time back. Since then, the country has secured a place on my places-to-go-before-I-die list. I have always marveled at the efficiency and hardworking nature of the Japanese people. I am sure they will come out of this ordeal stronger.

I just hope and pray that it happens soon.

These days, as I walk on the roads, I almost expect someone, with a weird hairdo, some holy book or other in hand, to drop in on me chanting "Repent, for the end of the world is near" :-( I am not paranoid but the first word that popped into my mind when I saw the water sweeping away anything and everything that happened to be in its path in Japan was "2012"! I am sure those TV channels which are always one step away from proclaiming the end of the world must be having a field day right now.

But take a moment to think about this. Either the world will end in 2012 or not. If it does not end, then we would have wasted our precious time in unnecessarily worrying over it. So let's not waste it.

If, on the other hand, it does end then there isn't anything that you or me can do to avoid it. So there is no point in wasting time obsessing over it. We are better off enjoying whatever time we have left on this earth - spending more time with our loved ones, giving time to our favorite hobbies, being nice to people and helping others as much as we can. That's the only way to go!

So either way, there isn't a moment to waste any time thinking over it.

P.S. As far as I am concerned, I don't think the world is going to end in 2012. :-) I think the Earth will still forgive us if we start to right the wrong we have done to the planet and its environment all these years. But we have to take the first step forward. Take that step today.

Weekend's here again! I am hoping to meet one of my best friends tomorrow. We stay in the same city but at opposite ends and haven't met for more than one and a half years. :-( Both of us really hate to talk on phone unless a gun is put to our heads. And so we have been staying in touch only through SMS.

I am looking forward to catching up on a lot of gupshup and gossip tomorrow. Hope we meet!

At least we Indians are consistent in being shoddy!
