The ad that makes me reach for the remote (to turn off the 'mute' button) every time it is aired is one by the Set Max 2 channel. It features a senior citizen couple - the wife is shelling peas and humming a Golden Era song -हमने देखी  है. The room is dark because there is no electricity at the moment. Just when the husband is listening appreciatively, the electricity supply is restored, the lights come up and the wife stops her humming. You will have to watch the ad to know what happens next. Hats off to the person who conceived it!

And there are two ads that make me want to pull out my hair even though the mute button is ON. One is the Limca ad starring Kareena Kapoor. The Golden Era song - सर जो तेरा चकराये - has been mangled cruelly to provide background score. And the lady who sings it should be banned from ever singing again! It's an audio-visual nightmare. And that's putting it mildly.

The other ad is Kurkure's - the one starring Boman Irani.  'Yuck' is the only word that comes to my mind :-(

Yeh Jo Hai Jindagi

Saturday nights always make me wonder why there are so many channels provided by the cable company. Not one of them has a program worth investing your time in. I was clicking through channels when I chanced upon Hathway Entertainment channel. Waiting to find out which movie was going to be aired, I was surprised to see when title song of 'Yeh Jo Hai Jindagi' (an 80s sitcom) started playing.

It was an episode in which Renu (Swarup Sampat) goes to husband Ranjit's (Shafi Inamdar) office as a sales-girl.  The decor of the home and office had the typical 80s look. A simple story and no-nonsense acting. It was so refreshing (not to mention nostalgic!) to watch it after almost 3 decades!

I hope I am able to catch an episode featuring Ranjit and Renu's neighbors - the Bhattacharya's :-)

Chilli House, Shivaji Park

It was a bit unsettling to be the only people lunching in the eatery. But this place has just opened up in the mall (if you can call it that!) that is located next to Shivaji Mandir. The only other option is McDonald's.

As a rule, whenever I go to any new place to dine, I order some run-of-the-mill dishes. If they taste okay, then the place is good to go. So Chicken Spring Rolls was the first dish to be ordered. But I was fascinated by the words 'Spicy Black Noodles' and decided to go for it as well. Unfortunately, our server said that it wasn't available. Okay, how about some Pad Thai then? He trouped to the kitchen and back. 'Spicy Black Noodles can be ordered but not Pad Thai'. I wanted to know what goes into 'Spicy Black Noodles' but all that I could get from the server was that they are cooked in soya sauce. I couldn't be sure whether they contained any vegetables or not. So, I decided to play it safe and ordered Sizzling Veg Teppan Soya Noodles.

The Spring Rolls were crispy and lightly seasoned. With 8-10 pieces per dish, a sizable quantity as well. The noodles were lightly spiced and served on the sizzler plate. Each dish is priced at around Rs 200-210. Light on pocket and light on tummy!

The restaurant is spacious with plenty of open space. The decor is pleasant. And the staff is courteous. I am glad I have found an alternative to McDonald's!!

SaltWater Cafe, Bandra (W)

First, a disclaimer is in order. We reached the place close to noon. They were taking the last order for breakfast but we weren't in much mood for omelettes, waffles or pancakes. And so ended up ordering the following mix - Eggs Benedict Ham, Spinach Salad and Tomato Mascarpone Risotto.

I will say it without mincing any words - Eggs Benedict Ham is a must for seriously non-vegetarian people! I am not one of them but want to try it next time I visit the place. So I will be a good girl the whole week and eat all my veggies before ordering Eggs Benedict Ham on the weekend :-)

Spinach Salad
The menu had my all-time favorite salad - watermelon with pine nuts and crumbled feta. But Spinach salad came highly recommended. I was highly doubtful - a combination of spinach, arugula and orange chunks would be too bitter for my taste. Maybe granola would balance it out. Unfortunately, my hunch was proven right. All the granola remained at the bowl's bottom despite repeated shaking. If they had used torn spinach and arugula instead of using them whole, the salad would have tasted much better.

Tomato Mascarpone Risotto

I am not much of a fan of 'El Tomate' - either in pasta or in risotto. But there was little to order if I wanted to avoid eating eggs or burgers or sandwiches. Hence the risotto. Needless to say that I didn't like it. :-(

In a nutshell, go to this place if you want to have a good hearty breakfast. They say that's the best way to start a day - even if it is on a weekend!
