2 Course Lunch, TGIF

'No Chinese, No Indian, No Pizza, No Burger and No Subway' I said emphatically, leaving others in the group wondering if there was anything that they could eat without tossing me out of the mall. As we were collectively scratching our heads, it suddenly dawned on me that it was Friday and so we could go for TGIF's 2 Course Lunch - something that I had been unable to try out so far because I had always ended up at the mall over the weekend.

Between all of us, here's what we ended up ordering:

Cream Of Mushroom Soup

Caesar Salad

Cajun Chicken Wings

Cottage Cheese Delight Pizza

Herb Grilled Chicken

Peanut Butter Crumble Brownie
Now, for the pluses. I am not a big fan of soups. But Cream of Mushroom is one of the few that I like. And I am glad to say that TGIF didn't disappoint me. It was thick, tasty, creamy and absolutely soul-satisfying. The 2 pieces of garlic bread were a perfect accompaniment.

Another thing that I am not terribly fond of is a vegetarian salad. The Caesar Salad that we ordered somehow wasn't as crisp as I would have liked it to be. If I were to go for this meal again, I would definitely skip it.

As far as the Cajun Chicken Wings go, I would definitely have liked a bit more spice on the chicken pieces. I prefer boneless chicken if I am eating outside because it is less messy. I wasn't too happy about the trees that must have gone into making the paper napkin as I kept wiping my greasy fingers onto it. :-( The group failed to reach a unanimous verdict as far as the accompanying sauce was concerned. I voted 'Aye'.

The pizza would have tasted great if it had a few juicy pieces of chicken in it instead of chunks of cottage cheese. They would have done wonders with the pineapple pieces. Next time I am going for a non-veg pizza on the 2 Course Lunch menu.

'There is no way on earth a Herb Grilled Chicken will be spicy' I kept on saying to mentally prepare myself for a bland chicken breast. Alright! It wasn't that bland but it wasn't exactly full of flavor either. The rice accompanying the dish was okay but I am still in the dark about why the chef decided it was fun to throw in a piece of lemon along with the rest of the veggies in it. As luck would have it, I bit into it only to wince as the citrus flavor hit me with full force. Not funny! Oh, and please change that side dish of Moong - it is dry and without any taste whatsoever. Next time, I am going for that chicken dish with fettucine pasta.

And finally, the sweet dish of the day! I must confess, my first thought was to go for Apple Pie as peanut butter does not quite figure in my top 100 favorite foods list. But I am glad I went for it because it was simply divine. I could have easily downed one more helping of it!

I forgot to add that each 2 Course Lunch menu comes with a drink of your choice - unlimited refill. I don't know about you but for me it was a Herculean effort to finish off the first serving in the tall glass. I never went for the refill.

If you have made it this far, you must be thinking that it was all a waste of money. I don't think so. I will definitely go there again - and 'Choose Wisely' as the Grail Knight advises Indie in 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade'.

Thank God for TGIF!

P.S. I am still trying to figure out why they have printed the following line at the bottom of the receipt though:

Food served is fit for consumption in the restaurant only.
These days, I am somehow managing to follow up 4 shows. The first one is Lost - 1st season has just ended here and we have 5 more seasons to go. The 2nd one is the X-files - the 5th season just began. Then there is Supernatural - we have 2 more episodes to go of Season 7 before the 8th one begins.

And finally, Body Of Proof. It was sad to see half of Dr. Megan's team gone. But judging from the 1st episode of season 3, Megan seems to have become more adamant and less likely to listen to any reasoning. I got to know today that this season is also going to be the show's last. That's sad!
Alright! Here is another book for those who are interested in intelligence agencies in general, and Mossad in particular - Gideon's Spies: The Secret History of the Mossad Paperback by Gordon Thomas

These links are more like notes to myself for my next vacation (whenever that is going to be!). But if you are planning one yourself, please feel free to check them out. I came across them while going through Outlook Money's 15th Anniversary issue.
