Latest batch of gizmos

You’ll travel well with these gizmos
Recently when a cabbie handed me back the change after I paid the fare, I noticed a smaller Re. 1 coin. On examining it closely, I noticed that it had the new Rupee Symbol on it. I find the new coin rather cute in its design :-) On reaching home, I put it in the collection that I have started - of coins with different designs commemorating special days or events. Just then it struck me that in the future all the coins will be of this design so what I really need to save is the old Re. 1 coin :-)

अर्ज है.....

हातोंकी लकीरॊपर मत किस्मतका गुमान करना
किस्मत तो उनकीभी होती है जिनके हाथ नही होते

(From the internet)
So now the Master Blaster wants to revamp the ODI format. What for? So we can perform equally dismally in all 4 innings? I immensely respect him as a player but I think right now he should help the team analyze just what went wrong in England and remedy it rather than thinking about newer formats of the game.
These days I am skipping all articles that express any views on whether RBI will hike the key rates further or not and the level that the stock market will achieve in coming 12 months. I am tired of being told that equity investment is for the long run. Then there are the perennial discussions on the world economy (which somehow almost always seems to be in the doldrums) and its effects (and after-effects!) on the Indian markets. Some people are advising investors to go for Gold ETFs while others are proclaiming the virtues of Gold FoFs. Then there is the timeless debate on how much Debt is good for one's portfolio.

God! The path of investing for one's future is lined with more potholes than Mumbai's roads. :-(

This one came in an Email:

While hair cutting, Government Employed Barber, asked Kapil Sibal, ‘’What’s this Swiss Bank issue?”

Kapil Sibal shouted, “YOU are cutting hair or making inquiry?”
Barber: Sorry Sir, I just simply asked.

Next day, while cutting the hair, he asked Pranab Mukherjee,“Sir, what’s this Black money issue?’’

Pranab shouted, ‘’Why do you ask me this question?’’
Barber: ‘’Sorry Sir, just simply asked you"

Next day, CBI interrogated the Barber,‘’Are you an agent of Baba Ramdev?’’
Barber: No Sir.

CBI: Are you the agent of Anna?
Barber: No Sir.

CBI: Then while cutting the hair, why you ask Congress Ministers about Swiss Bank and Black money issues?

Barber: Sir, the reason is, when I ask about Swiss Bank or Black money,

The Congress Ministers’ hairs stand up straight;
And that helps me to cut the hair easily!

I have a belief that life isn't about balance because balance is perfection. Rather, it's about catching the ball before it hits the floor.

Thank God for small mercies! There are only 3 formats in cricket - Tests, ODIs and 20-20. If there were a fourth one, I am sure the Indian team would have lost all matches in it as well against England. Wonder whatever happened to the Midas touch of Captain Cool!

Not a piece of cake

I watched celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor turn out a beautiful Cheese Cake in his culinary program 'Sanjeev Kapoor's Kitchen'. I have never done any baking in my life so far but the way Kapoor did it, it seemed so easy.

Then in the evening, I watched another program on Travel and Living Channel - Fabulous Cakes. It featured 3 cakes made by bakeries in Las Vegas. There was one which created the entire scene of man's first moon landing - complete with figure of Buzz Aldrin , the Lunar module and the earth as seen from the moon. The second one re-created the Vegas skyline with its 9 casinos. And the last cake was every kid's dream come true - a fairytale castle with a moat, tiny vegetable garden and wishing well.

I watched open-mouthed as the skilled bakers created individual cake components from ingredients such as cream, marshmallows, edible gold, cakes, chocolat and rice cereal. I lamented the waste of cake as they kept on trying to recreate the Luxor. And my heart was almost in my mouth as the cake components were transported to their respective venues for final assembly.

Needless to mention, the final products were simply breath-taking and making them was definitely not a piece of cake!

Chillar Party Zindabad!

First things first, if you haven't yet watched this delectable fare dished out by a couple of kids and a dog, I highly recommend it.

The storyline is quite simple. The protagonist, an orphan boy doing the job of washing cars in a housing complex, is first harassed by the society's kids but then they all become friends. Enter the evil politician who is hell-bent on clearing the city of all of its stray dogs. The first in line is the stray dog patronized by the protagonist. It seems like an uneven fight - a mighty politician vs a group of school-going kids. But the kids have just too many tricks up their sleeve.

So grab a bagful of popcorn and sit down to figure out who wins in the end. I guarantee that this will be time worth spent. :-)
