Not a piece of cake

I watched celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor turn out a beautiful Cheese Cake in his culinary program 'Sanjeev Kapoor's Kitchen'. I have never done any baking in my life so far but the way Kapoor did it, it seemed so easy.

Then in the evening, I watched another program on Travel and Living Channel - Fabulous Cakes. It featured 3 cakes made by bakeries in Las Vegas. There was one which created the entire scene of man's first moon landing - complete with figure of Buzz Aldrin , the Lunar module and the earth as seen from the moon. The second one re-created the Vegas skyline with its 9 casinos. And the last cake was every kid's dream come true - a fairytale castle with a moat, tiny vegetable garden and wishing well.

I watched open-mouthed as the skilled bakers created individual cake components from ingredients such as cream, marshmallows, edible gold, cakes, chocolat and rice cereal. I lamented the waste of cake as they kept on trying to recreate the Luxor. And my heart was almost in my mouth as the cake components were transported to their respective venues for final assembly.

Needless to mention, the final products were simply breath-taking and making them was definitely not a piece of cake!
