High Street Phoenix hosts a Book and Garage Sale in association with The Welfare of Stray Dogs - May 10th and 11th

This is the email I got from them:

The Welfare of Stray Dogs (WSD) is an animal welfare NGO that sterilizes and immunizes stray dogs. We also have an adoption program for abandoned pets and pariahs, an on-site first–aid program and an education and awareness program in schools, colleges, streets and slums. WSD has so far sterilized more than 46,500 stray dogs and impacted the lives of over a lakh and twenty thousand through first-aid, immunization and adoption.

WSD spends Rs 5,00,000 per month on the above activities and we depend on the largesse of donors to fund these activities.

One of the methods of raising funds to sustain our costs is our regular garage/jumble sales and we are having a BOOK and GARAGE SALE on May 10 and 11, 2013(Friday and Saturday) from 12 noon to 9 pm, hosted by High Street Phoenix ( Location – Opposite PVR Mall)

I am not a fan of self-help books or those that promise to tell you how to make your life more meaningful or fulfilling or enriched. Experience tells me that I agree with most of what is said, manage to put it in practice for some time and then revert back to my old ways when reality called 'Life' takes over.

But I wanted to find out what this hoopla surrounding Rhonda Byrne's 'The Secret' is so I requested one my friends to lend me a copy of it. Plus I managed to get 'The Secret Of The Nagas' issued from the library.

So, now I got 2 books to read. Hope I find the time to do so :-)

‘Ponting looks so cute’ swooned my young colleague. I rolled my eyes in utter exasperation. She had been to Wankhede stadium for the MI vs. KKR match. And I had made the mistake of asking what the experience was like. Served me right! I have never been an ardent fan of any cricketer, much less Ricky Ponting. But I respect the man for showing courage to sit out the matches for lack of form. He does seem to have mellowed down too, if his interaction with team mates is anything to go by.

Anyway, back to IPL as an experience. I had wanted to go watch some MI match this time. But I never pursued buying tickets diligently and then the MI performance wasn’t inspiring enough to make me part with my hard-earned money. So this still remains on my list of ‘100 things to do before you die’

Speaking of IPL, I overheard a conversation between the driver and conductor of the AC bus that I was travelling in. The driver was very amused and excited about the show of camaraderie between players of different nations who are part of the same team. Frankly, he is not the only one to think like that. I too find myself feeling amused when players who would have otherwise made rude gestures at each other celebrate after taking a wicket or scoring a four or a six.

So I am not sure why Virat Kohli made such a fuss about Indians booing their own players. Come on Virat, don't insult our intelligence. Do you really think we will not root for you guys when you are up against the Aussies or the Brits? We always have and we always will – even if you guys put up a dismal performance.

But right now, it is IPL and I am going to boo you to my heart’s content if you are playing against MI.
