Haunted in Death - by J.D. Robb

J.D. Robb is none other than Nora Roberts and in this novel, she tells us the story of Number Twelve - a happening place of the 1960s that a century later is a shell of its former self. To make matters worse, it is supposed to be haunted and cursed - if what happened to a string of its previous owners is anything to go by.

Radcliff Hopkins, III is the latest victim. Though the press and populace have a field day talking about the supernatural, Lieutenant Eve Dallas is convinced that the hand that held the gun did not belong to any specter. Her opinion doesn't change even when she learns that this murder is linked to the mysterious disappearance of a promising rock star, Bobbie Bray, of the '60s. You have to read the book to figure out if she is proven right that there is no such thing as a ghost.

The story happens in 2060 so there are lot of references to the gadgets that are non-existent today like the 'link. The "Working" response emitted by Eve's computer when she instructs it to process some data seems straight out of Star Trek. :-) Then there sure is some cop jargon like vid (for video) and vic (for victim) which can be confusing at first. But I absolutely loved the story :-)
