Have you heard of Kashmir Singh? This 67-year old Indian who was arrested in 1973 on charges of espionage is returning to his motherland after spending 35 years in various Pakistani jails. His wife and son received him at the Wagah border.

Does that ring a bell? Yes, though the similarity ends here this story does remind one of the Shahrukh-Preity-Rani starrer “Veer-Zara”. And the media was quick to point this out.

But now the million dollar question is - who is responsible for these lost 35 years of Kashmir Singh’s life? Pakistan Government - for not carrying out investigation in time? Indian Government – for not stepping up the pressure sooner? Or the rest of us – for not caring a damn about such cases? I think all. Yes, including you and me.

None of us can give these lost years back to him but at least India will be able to make some amends by starting the process for bringing each and every one of Indians back to India. Let’s make sure that “Let’s bring our heroes home" doesn’t just stay as a tagline for a movie.
